San Diego Senior Counsel Richard B. Geller obtained a defense verdict for the firm’s client AMC Theaters following a jury trial that took place from April 13, 2023 until May 3, 2023.
Plaintiff sought damages related to an altercation that occurred in December 2017 involving himself and an AMC employee after a dispute in an AMC lobby in Southern California. The dispute began over popcorn and ended with a fight between plaintiff and the 17-year old employee that moved from the lobby to outside the movie theater’s doors. Plaintiff claimed multiple damages and surgeries along with PTSD and related mental distress and demanded upwards of $10,000,000 from the jury.
The jury returned a defense verdict, finding AMC Theaters was not negligent in the incident and AMC Theaters’ employee acted in self-defense.
