Manning & Kass Supports Homeless Vets

Manning & Kass attorney Kaveh Keshmiri, an associate in the Los Angeles office of Manning & Kass, recently spearheaded an invitation to the firm's Los Angeles attorneys to attend an upcoming legal aid clinic, LA Veteran Stand Down, sponsored by LAFLA (Legal Aid Foundation Los Angeles). LAFLA provides legal assistance to homeless veterans.

The training will be held Saturday, December 19 and Sunday morning, December 20. According to the group, when surveyed by the Department of Veterans Affairs, homeless Veterans rank four legal concerns as their highest unmet needs, ahead of permanent, transi??onal, and emergency housing. Nicole M. Perez, the directing attorney at LAFLA, states that homeless veterans list the following amongst their highest unmet needs: (1) Inability to obtain benefits, including VA Benefits, (2) Outstanding Tickets & Warrants, (3) Changing a criminal record, and (4) Issues with child support, divorce, and custody/visitation.

LAFLA anticipates that 2500 homeless Veterans will attend the Stand Down, and many will be seeking legal assistance. Last year, more than 80 legal volunteers served 310 veterans at the event. Volunteers must register prior to attending, and may do so by clicking here. Mr. Keshmiri will be in attendance December 20th.
