Alexander Konetzki is an Associate Attorney in the Los Angeles office of Manning Kass. He is a member of the Landlord / Tenant / Habitability team.
A former criminal prosecutor, Mr. Konetzki is an exceptional courtroom advocate and legal writer with more than a decade of experience spanning civil litigation, criminal litigation, and transactional law. He is a fierce competitor for, and friend to, his clients.
Mr. Konetzki received his Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Political Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa, was a member of the Honors College, and was awarded a Ford Motors Scholarship for excellence in academics, campus leadership, and community service. Mr. Konetzki received his Master of Philosophy in International Relations from the University of Cambridge. His master’s thesis concerned America’s role in the global war on terrorism. Mr. Konetzki received his Juris Doctor and Certificate in International Law from the DePaul University College of Law, where he co-founded and served as Editor-in-Chief of the DePaul Rule of Law Journal. Mr. Konetzki’s primary focus in law school was trial advocacy, and he clerked for the Honorable Paul P. Biebel, Presiding Judge of the Criminal Court of Cook County in Chicago.
Before joining the firm, Mr. Konetzki worked as a criminal prosecutor at the Office of the Cook County State’s Attorney, the second-largest prosecutor’s office in the United States. In that capacity, he advocated in court daily to detain Chicago’s most dangerous criminals while they awaited trial. He was one of the first prosecutors in America to do so in a jurisdiction that eliminated cash bail through historic legislation, which Mr. Konetzki was responsible to interpret and implement in a manner favorable to the people of Chicago. His success rate in seeking pre-trial detention was among the highest in his office.
Prior to his prosecutorial work, Mr. Konetzki worked as an attorney at boutique firms representing clients in the areas of injury law, medical malpractice, business litigation, business formation, corporate governance, and estate planning. As a civil litigator, he managed complex, high-value cases — taking and defending depositions, writing and arguing dispositive motions, and negotiating settlements. He was often commended by judges and opposing counsel for his legal writing and courtroom advocacy.
Mr. Konetzki is admitted to the California State Bar, the Illinois State Bar, and the United States District Court - Northern District of Illinois.
