D. Hiep Truong is a Partner in the San Francisco office of Manning Kass. He is a member of the Workers' Compensation team.

Mr. Truong is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology. Mr. Truong received his Juris Doctor from Santa Clara University School of Law. Mr. Truong is admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court, United States District Court for the Northern District of California, and the Ninth Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals. He has assisted and counseled California Employers on conformance with employment and labor laws during litigation. Just as importantly, he has helped numerous employers avoid litigation. At Manning Kass, he continues to serve the interests of California employers, both large and small.

While in law school, Mr. Truong authored numerous articles, which have been published in various national law journals. Some of his writings include: "Daubert and Judicial Review: How Does An Administrative Agency Distinguish Valid Science from Junk Science?" (University of Akron Law Review); "Encouraging Foreign Direct Investment in Vietnam: Economic Reform, Protection Against Expropriation, and International Arbitration." (Journal of Transnational Law and Policy; Volume 8:1); and the "Illegal Immigration Reform and Responsibility Act of 1996: A Cost-Effective Measure for U.S. Citizens Or A Punishment for Immigrants Seeking the American Dream? (DePaul Digest of International Law; Vol. 3; Spring 1997)." During Mr. Truong's first year of law school, he clerked as an extern in the chambers of the Hon. A. Andrew Hauk, a Federal District Judge in the Central District of California. Mr. Truong was responsible for researching and writing the dispositive motions for the Monday Calendar.

During Mr. Truong's second and third year at law school, he worked for the United States Attorney's Office both in the Eastern and Northern District of California. At the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District, he worked on the appeal of a complex insurance fraud pyramid scheme. At the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District, he worked on the federal prosecution of a criminal copyright/trade secrets case involving a Fortune 500 Silicon Valley company. After law school, Mr. Truong was a certified law clerk in the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, where he conducted preliminary court hearings.

Mr. Truong has also engaged in pro bono work. He is a panel member of attorneys at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and has provided consultation on various areas of intellectual property law. He was also a volunteer moot court judge at Stanford Law School (from 2002 to 2009) and University of San Francisco School of Law (from 2007 to 2009). He volunteered as a moot court judge for Santa Clara University School of Law in 2009. Currently, he volunteers as a moot court judge at University of California, Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law.

He has also volunteered as a Scholarship Committee member for the Incentives and Awards Program (IAP) at the University of California at Berkeley. The IAP mission statement is as follows: "The Incentive Awards Program (IAP) provides a $32,000 scholarship award, and student support services to low-income students who have demonstrated leadership potential, high academics, and a commitment to serve others. IAP reaches out to first-generation college students who have overcome great socioeconomic disadvantages through its partnerships with 49 Northern California high schools, and 22 Los Angeles high schools through its Pre-Collegiate Academy." He has also volunteered as an alumni of the Regents' & Chancellor's Scholars Association (RCSA) at UC Berkeley, where he has provided guidance to current UCB RCSA students regarding a career in law. At SCU, he was a recipient of the B.T Collins Public Interest scholarship, California Bar Foundation scholarship, and the American Jurisprudence/Witkin Award for Academic Excellence in Administrative Law. At Manning &Kass, Mr. Truong has successfully arbitrated and mediated several cases. His achievements garnered him recognition as a 2009–2012 Rising Star by Law & Politics and Los Angeles Magazine, a distinction limited to only 2.5 percent of attorneys in California. When not in the office, Mr. Truong enjoys running, motorcycle riding (a Honda RC-51), playing tennis, photography, and writing. As a Cal Bear Backer, he holds season football tickets in the QQ section at Memorial Stadium.
