John D. Culver, Jr. is a Partner in the San Diego office of Manning Kass. He is a member of the Catastrophic Liability Defense, Insurance Coverage / Bad Faith, Premises Liability, Product Liability, and Special Investigations Unit / Insurance Fraud Litigation teams.
Mr. Culver has vast experience in Insurance Defense work, starting his career in the insurance industry with two major carriers, first in claims as an automobile appraiser, claim representative (1st & 3rd party claims, Personal & Commercial lines), and in management (managing suits against the company). Thereafter, he was in the Corporate Legal department as staff counsel as a Senior Trial Attorney, before transitioning to private practice with a boutique firm and eventually his own practice.
As a civil litigation trial attorney, Mr. Culver handled complex cases including wrongful death; serious/catastrophic injuries; environmental claims (mold); housing discrimination; habitability; infectious disease, unfair business practice; HOA disputes; assault; landslide/slope failure matters; insurance bad faith; automobile accidents; and premises liability matters.
Mr. Culver has had 30-plus jury trials and six bench trials. He was recognized as the trial lawyer of the year for the San Diego Branch Legal Office of Farmers, completing the most and longest trials in one year and receiving an award for outstanding trial results with Farmers’ Commercial / Specialty Claims. He is an Associate with the American Board of Trial Attorneys (ABOTA) – San Diego Chapter.
In his spare time, he enjoys traveling with his wife Theresa and friends, playing with their dogs, working out at the gym, acting, and pickleball.
