California 50 Survey Charts "Significant Growth" at Manning & Kass

September, 2015

The results are in for the California Lawyer annual survey, known as the "California 50" list, and while overall headcount "barely grew" for most of the largest, most prominent firms statewide, Manning & Kass was listed as one of only four firms who "grew significantly without mergers." This achievement is even more extraordinary given that 15 of the Cal50 can trace their earliest roots back as far as the 18th or 19th century; 14 were founded in the first half of the 20th century; and 19 were founded in the latter half of the century, prior to 1990. Of the two remaining firms launched in the 1990's, Manning & Kass, founded in 1994, is only five years older than the youngest, but leads by 13 places on the list.

Manning & Kass celebrates the biggest positive change in the number of places climbed on the list (excluding mergers) by jumping eight spots to number 33. The firm ranked second in overall growth at 11% attorney headcount increase since the 2014 survey. "This success," said managing partner Steve Manning, "is due in large part to the firm's commitment to constant improvement and our team concept. With the team approach, a lean, carefully chosen group of attorneys is assigned each client and led by a single individual conversant with all the client's work with the firm."
