Defense Victory in High Exposure Jail Suicide Case

Lou Pappas, and his trial team of Robert Murphy and Andrew Mallett obtained a defense verdict in a lawsuit brought by the family of an arrestee who committed suicide in a police department holding cell. The case was venued in Orange County, California - Santa Ana Federal District Court. After deliberations, the jury found that the clients, a local police department and it’s jailer staff, did not violate the constitutional rights of the arrestee under 42 U.S.C. § 1983, or the 8th and 14^th Amendments to the Constitution.
