Eugene P. Ramirez To Speak at DRI Conference

Eugene P. Ramirez has been invited to speak January 25-26, 2018, at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside, for the DRI conference entitled "Civil Rights and Governmental Tort Liability." The conference will allow attendees to participate in a panel discussion with both plaintiff's and defense counsel on controversial and hot-button issues impacting law enforcement, enjoy constitutional scholars lecturing on Supreme Court rulings on qualified immunity, and attend breakout sessions on topics in the areas of education, law enforcement, and land use.

Mr. Ramirez will speak in plenary sessions on Thursday, January 25, both at 8:15 and 10:00 am. His first presentation will be "From the Newsroom to the Courtroom: Litigating Emotionally Charged Police Cases," followed by, "Ferguson, Baltimore (INSERT YOUR CITY HERE): A Panel Discussion on Race and Police." His first session will include tips for both sides on litigation involving issues such as race and other diversity issues; Mr. Ramirez will be joined by plaintiff's counsel. His second session includes, in addition to Mr. Ramirez, two attorneys and Gary M. Carter, from the Louisiana House of Representatives. The panel will discuss policing and race relations in communities of color.

The weekend will also allow opportunities for networking, such as a Young Lawyers Dine Around Dinner and Women in the Law Committee Lunch as well as a 5k fun run along the Mississippi Riverwalk and community service project.
