Lou Pappas to Lead Panel on Reptile Theory

Health Care Liability Team Leader Lou Pappas will moderate a panel discussion on the Reptile Theory in medical malpractice cases at the 2020 Crittenden Medical Insurance Conference. The conference, which will be held in Miami this April, is an annual three day event for Insurance professionals, designed to help executives stay up-to-date on advanced industry information. Reptile Theory is a strategy employed by plaintiff’s attorneys that seeks to distract from the actual injuries of the plaintiff and instead portray the defendant as a danger to the community, thereby provoking an instinctual response in jurors to “protect” themselves by punishing the defendant with exorbitant damages.

Mr. Pappas is a partner in the Firm’s Los Angeles office and has more than 35 years of experience in general litigation at both the trial and appellate levels. His impressive trial experience in healthcare has ranged from defending the individual clinician in medical malpractice actions involving catastrophic injury, wrongful death or birth injuries, to representing major medical centers and public entities.
