Robert E. Murphy is a Partner in the Los Angeles office of Manning Kass. He is a member of the Employment Law, Construction Defect, Health Care Liability, Governmental Liability, and Subrogation and Recovery teams.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Murphy spent several years as a partner at a prominent defense firm located in Woodland Hills, CA. Mr. Murphy received his Bachelor of Arts from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York and his Juris Doctor from State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law. He is admitted to the California state bar. Mr. Murphy has handled more than 40 jury trials involving employment law, construction defect, medical and professional negligence, contractual disputes, and class action and mass torts defense. His cases frequently involve significant injuries and/or damages.

His vast trial knowledge coupled with his experience as an arbitrator and mediator has enabled Mr. Murphy to successfully resolve cases prior to trial with a two-prong approach. One is to identify cases, which can be successfully concluded via motion for summary judgment. The other is to vigorously investigate and identify problem cases for early resolution. This approach helps to keep attorney fees low and cost-efficient. If a case cannot be resolved in this manner, Mr. Murphy stands ready to present a strong defense at trial.

Mr. Murphy has been named a 2005–2006 Super Lawyer by Law & Politics Magazine, which distinguished him among the top 5% of insurance defense lawyers in Southern California. He has written several articles and given presentations to the insurance defense industry on a variety of subjects.

Mr. Murphy's present and past memberships include: Southern California Defense Counsel Association, American Bar Association, International Association of Special Investigation Units, Los Angeles County Bar Association, Southern California Chapter of the Blue Goose International, Southern California Fraud Investigators Association and Southern California Adjusters Association.
